ZLG Design

Architect

Huat Lim trained as an architect in london, registered in 1987 and is now the managing director of design firm zlgdesign. He studied at the Architectural Association, tutored by Sir Peter Cook and Ron Herron of Archigram, and also by the cybernetics pioneer Dr. Gordon Pask, probably his most influential mentor. For many years Huat was at Foster + Associates in both offices in Britain and France, and worked on the award-winning Stansted Airport. For a period after graduating from the AA, Huat also worked at Zaha Hadid’s iconic Bowling Green Lane studio and also for Ron Herron at his Imagination Building Headquarters, both in London. Huat co-founded zlgdesign with Susanne Zeidler and has been managing director since its inception in 1992. Working from a philosophy that draws on research, examination, critique and exploration of cutting-edge issues, zlgdesign has been responsible for some of Malaysia’s most outstanding examples of contemporary architecture. Notable buildings include the Boh Visitor Centre in Cameron Highlands and the Point 92 office building in Kuala Lumpur. Together with Peter Cook and Ron Herron, Huat developed the first conceptual masterplan for Kuala Lumpur’s LinearCity project. An advocate of holistic education, he also teaches at Taylor’s University, UCSI University and The One Academy.
